Mike Hee

Mike is a licensed Landscape Architect and Technical Director at Studio-MLA with nearly two decades of experience leading complex projects from design development through construction. Over the course of his 19 year career, he has established himself as a trusted resource for technical systems, material craft, and field coordination -- guiding teams through the detailed, demanding work of getting projects built well. Mike excels in the advanced phases of design; translating vision into documentation, navigating construction administration, and problem-solving alongside clients, consultants, and internal teams. Across project types and scales, Hee brings a consistent focus on precision, craft, and constructability. Within the office, Hee mentors colleagues on technical design, materiality, and field services on projects across the practice.

His approach to landscape architecture is rooted in a belief that public space has the power to strengthen communities -- through designs that are versatile, resilient, and responsive to natural systems.

Mike Holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (2008), where he also earned a minor in Sustainable Environments and participated in the Extended Field Trip studying built landscapes in Italy, Germany, and France. Hee has previously Held positions at EDAW in Irvine, SWA in Los Angeles and CMG in San Francisco. Mike is a Certified Arborist and serves on the Board of Directors for the Theodore Payne Foundation.
