Explore Study Abroad and Off-Campus Programs

Landscape Architecture students can participate in study abroad and off-campus study through several types of programs. Offerings, eligibility requirements, schedules, costs, and application deadlines may change each year.

Students should begin researching options during their second year and normally participate during their fourth year. Before applying, meet with a Landscape Architecture faculty advisor to confirm that the program supports your academic plan and degree progress.

Program Options

Students may choose from several types of study abroad and off-campus programs based on their academic interests, professional goals, schedule, budget, and personal circumstances. Options may include:

Cal Poly Pomona

Cal Poly Pomona typically offers a fall program in Italy.

National Student Exchanges (Universities with Landscape Architecture)

There are over 20 universities around the country with landscape architecture programs that are current members of the NSE system – agreements change constantly. To search for programs, click here.

CSU International Programs

Several CSU-IP programs may offer related academic experiences to Landscape Architecture. Work with a Faculty Advisor and Cal Poly International Center to find a program. For more information, click here.

Architecture Programs

Some programs offered through the Architecture department may be open to Landscape Architecture students. Participation is subject to program availability and approval by the Architecture department. Landscape Architecture students must also receive advance approval from a Landscape Architecture faculty advisor for participation and academic credit.

Cal Poly International Center Programs

Cal Poly provides information on Landscape Architecture and related programs (including programs providing General Education credit).  For information and opportunities use the Search or Advanced Search engine on the Cal Poly Study Abroad website. 

Non-Affiliated Programs

Students should first explore Cal Poly-approved programs, which provide institutional review, advising, travel insurance, emergency support, and established academic procedures.

Students considering a non-affiliated program must consult the Cal Poly International Center and a Landscape Architecture faculty advisor before applying. Non-affiliated programs require additional academic, financial, and logistical planning. Financial aid may not be available, and transfer, General Education, or major credit is not guaranteed.
