SCASLA

Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (SCASLA)

Faculty Advisor: Miran Day

SCASLA is the student organization affiliated with the professional association for landscape architects: the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Our mission is to promote education, community involvement, student activities, a sense of spirit and pride, wise planning, and artful design of our cultural and natural environments.

Joining SCASLA provides a variety of opportunities, including community clean-ups, educational field trips, hosting guest speakers, interdisciplinary activities, or attending conferences such as LABash. SCASLA members also coordinate with the Landscape Architecture Department Advisory Council (LADAC) and other professional partners to organize a Shadowship program for students each year.

Shadowship is intended for students to gain exposure to firm dynamics and network with landscape architecture design professionals by "shadowing" them in their work environment. A shadowship can last from one work day to a whole week (determined by individual firms) and may include office meetings, presentations, site visits, or office/design tasks. Students are encouraged to shadow multiple design firms and to start shadowing in their first year of the program. Shadowships can be very beneficial as a foundation for applying to internships.
