Faculty Biography
Daniel Kletzing teaches courses from beginning drafting to computer graphics, construction documentation and natural systems studios, and green infrastructure in design. For each upper division studio, students partner with public or nonprofit organizations such as the cities of San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, and Arroyo Grande. Students have worked one-on-one and collectively with city planners and engineers. Studio foci range from urban design to natural systems preservation and passive recreation, trail design.
His research builds on practice experience working with communities in landscape architecture and planning. Recently he has collaborated with Indigenous communities focused on revitalizing traditional ecological knowledge in food production. An extensive study catalogued Indigenous environmental nonprofits nationwide and their partnerships with environmental design colleges. He has also obtained a research permit with the National Park Service to work with archeologists in analyzing Mesa Verde’s Indigenous-traditional green infrastructure tools.
He is a licensed landscape architect and LEED AP with community design experience for park, streetscape, educational, and residential sites. He has also worked in community development planning for people experiencing homelessness. He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and his Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
