Ways to Get Involved
Your experience, expertise, and support can help today's students become tomorrow's leaders in the profession. There are a variety of ways alumni and friends can participate with our program, such as:
Make a donation to the Department
There are many options for Giving that support students and faculty, whether it's donating to an existing fund, creating a new scholarship fund, or planning a legacy gift from your estate.
Sponsor a studio and/or Design-Build project
Partnering with faculty on real-world project sites is a rewarding experience for students and stakeholders alike. Sponsors provide funding for site visits and participate in critiquing design work. Studios incorporating design-build projects may also benefit from donations of suitable construction materials.
Host students for a visit to your office or project site
Connect with our Student Clubs to organize a group field trip for students to meet with your firm and/or tour a project site. SCASLA members are also responsible for coordinating Shadowships with companies that would like to participate in having individual students observe their work environment.
Share job and internship openings on our website
Landscape Architecture firms and organizations are encouraged to send information to the Department when they are hiring for Jobs and Internships. Signing up to attend Career Fairs is also a great way to meet students and discuss opportunities for employment.
Offer a guest lecture/presentation or critique
Students and faculty greatly appreciate professionals in landscape architecture and allied industries sharing their expertise through guest presentations and studio reviews of design work. Contact landscapearchitecture@calpoly.edu to inquire about opportunities.
Join our Advisory Council and/or faculty team
The Landscape Architecture Department Advisory Council (LADAC) reviews nominations for new members each spring. Contact the Department Head to learn how to apply. If you are interested in a paid position (rather than volunteer), consider applying to be a Part-time Lecturer.
