Faculty Biography
Joe Dunstan has an MLA from North Carolina State University where he studied under Randy Hester, and has a B.A. from Arizona State University. He has 27 years of experience in landscape architecture and park and recreation design and urban design. He is a landscape architect for the National Park Service, where he is responsible for the planning, design and construction of visitor/recreation facilities in national parks and historic sites in six western states. As the regional accessibility coordinator he is responsible for ensuring facilities and programs are accessible for all park visitors. In 1999 he received the National Park Service Director’s Award for Natural Resource Stewardship for his work in integrating sustainable practices in park maintenance operations. He has worked for the U.S. Forest Service, and was a senior associate with Richard Haag Associates, and a project manager with Richard Carothers Associates, in Seattle, Washington. His area of interest includes recreation design with an emphasis in preserving cultural and natural resources, and environmental ethics.
