Faculty Biography
Bret Betnar was a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, for many years and promoted to Assistant Professor in 2026. He teaches courses in studio design, site engineering, and digital communication. He has taught in South Korea, Nebraska, and California, and practiced in both Colorado and Washington, D.C.
After a studio trip to India, while attending the University of Pennsylvania, Bret awoke to the worldwide importance of sanitation access and reform. His studio project, entitled Sh*tscape: Mumbai's Landscape In-Between, received a student Award of Excellence from the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2010.
