Biography

David Reis has served for 19 years in the Forest Service in California and the Intermountain Region of Nevada. He has been the Forest Landscape Architect/Assistant Recreation and Wilderness Program Manager for the Humboldt-Toiyabe (H-T) National Forest since October 2004. As such, David is responsible for:

  • recreation strategic planning, including the development of long-term recreation program goals and multi-year objectives.

  • participating as a core team member for forest plan revision efforts, forest-wide travel management, minerals and mining, roadless areas, scenery management, recreation, scenic byways, fuels treatments and analysis of environmental effects to those program areas.

  • initiating a vegetation management program for developed recreation sites to meet short and long-term action plans.

  • providing leadership as the project landscape architect on the Alpine County Winter Recreation Plan to improve recreation opportunities for both motorized and non-motorized user groups.

In addition, David serves on the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Interpretation Design Team with the Stanislaus National Forest and the Forest Service NEPA Support Team for Sage Grouse Planning Strategy; provides Resource Advisory Committee design assistance, budget monitoring, and coordination with the H-T Districts; develops vegetation management plans for H-T developed recreation sites; and provides program assistance with Wilderness 10-Year Challenge; Infra Trails; Visitor Use Monitoring; and Accessibility.

David graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in June 1992, with a BS in Landscape Architecture, and an emphasis on Ecological Design and Planning at the regional scale.
