Biography

 

Matt Wilkins began working in 2023 as Director of Landscape Architecture with Wallace Group in San Luis Obispo. Previously, he was a Sr. Landscape Architect & Planner at KTUA, leading their California Central Coast office located in northern Santa Barbara County. He is a licensed landscape architect and has a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture with a minor in sustainability from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. During his time at Cal Poly he was very active in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED), serving as the vice president of the CAED ambassadors and as the CAED Dean’s Intern. Matt was also active in the student chapter of ASLA serving as the treasurer and was an advisor for the College Based Fees Student Advisory Group as a 5th year rep.

Matt continued his volunteerism into his career and was an ACE mentor and served as the San Diego Chapter of ASLA’s Vice President of Public Relations and Communications while living in San Diego. Matt also led the national ASLA’s digital technology Professional Practice Network as the chair for three years and is currently involved as the officer for the PPN’s Field Article series of which he’s written several articles for. His dedication to the profession and interest in 3D and digital technology has allowed him to lead the discussion about technology use in the field of landscape architecture where he has written and contributed to many professional articles and papers and presented at various national conferences, including several presentations at the ASLA National Conference on Landscape Architect.

In his professional career he has worked in interdisciplinary groups and brings valuable knowledge of planning, design, construction, and digital technology to the teams that he works with. Matt has a diversity of work experience in both public and private sectors ranging from master planning / conceptual design through PSE documentation and construction administration. Throughout his career he has worked on notable projects ranging from parks and recreation, trails and transportation infrastructure, hospitality and commercial office design, k-12 and higher education campuses, health care facilities, federal planning, and various other market areas. Some of his recognized projects that he led as a project manager are the Pismo Pier Plaza, Pacifica’s Chula Vista Bayfront Amara Bay Master Plan, Chula Vista’s Bayfront Park Master Plans, the Carlsbad Ocean Street Beach Access project, and various others. With his passion for building a better tomorrow, Matt is dedicated to building healthier communities.
